Amnesty International: Security Experts Express Worry

Some security experts in the country have continued to express worry over the activities of Amnesty International in Nigeria. According to multiple sources interviewed by this newspaper, they stated that if the relevant authorities do not take urgent steps, the country might go up in flames due to the desperation of Amnesty International and their international collaborators in seeing to the disintegration of Nigeria.  According to Prof. Stanly Onyia an expert in peace and conflict studies at the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR) in Abuja, he stated that a cursory look at the recent posturing of Amnesty International is an indication that they are out for a mission that is not in the best interest of Nigeria.  “AI is not a credible organization; their mission, especially in Nigeria, is tied around the innate desire to perpetuate mischief and cause a conflict of immeasurable proportion. Their reports are often lacking in objectivity and somewhat a...

Nigerian Troops Have Killed, Fatally Injured 762 Boko Haram Terrorists, Centre Says In Report

A report by the Institute for Peace and Counter-Terrorism Studies (IPCTS) has revealed how the Nigerian military killed and injured over 762 Boko Haram terrorists in the last one month.  According to the report signed by Executive Director, Dr. Samson Bello, the institute attributed the military's all-new operational strategy for this feat, which is the brainchild of Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. T.Y Buratai.  The Army Chief’s relocation to the northeast to lead the final clearance operation has rubbed off on the troops of Operation Lafiya Dole.  The atmosphere has drastically changed with the troops highly motivated ever than before in the quest to flush out the fleeing terrorists.  After its extensive research work in the northeast, the Institute for Peace and Counter-Terrorism Studies hailed the COAS for being the catalyst propelling his troops from the front in the last one month. It disclosed that no fewer  than 350 Boko terrorists ha...

Amnesty International, Sahara Reporters And The War Within By Anthony Kolawole

The war against terrorism in Nigeria has been a front-burner issue fo r a while. Social commentators have made postulations with regards to the success recorded so far. At the same time, some have also faulted the modus operandi of the Nigerian Military in the prosecution of the war. These are indeed interesting times. Nigerians have not seen the worst of the war against terrorism. A critical contributor to the war has been neglected and with the whole emphasis placed on Boko Haram/ISWAP. Nigerians have also failed to understand that there are various components of warfare and that the physical manifestation is just as an aspect of the overarching strategy just as it is evident in the raging battle between the Nigerian Military and the Boko Haram insurgent group in North-East Nigeria. In Nigeria today, two things stand out with regard to the war against terrorism: the war and the war within. And this brings me to the activities of Amnesty International and Sahara Reporte...

CAFA Raises Alarm Over Sahara Reporters’ Unrelenting Demonization of the Nigerian Military

The Citizens Against Fake Activism (CAFA) has raised an alarm over Sahara Reporters' continuous demonization of the Nigerian military.  In a statement signed by its Director of Research, Evelyn Otti, on Thursday, CAFA said the media outfit’s target is to promote pro-terrorists and pro-Boko Haram propaganda for its selfish gains.  According to the group, SR's wants  the war on Boko Haram to drag on longer than it already has in the hope that the terrorists can rebuild and strategize.   As the war drags on, CAFA added that the Omoyele Sowore-owned platform will continue to receive astronomical sums from its paymasters with vested interest in the country.  The Citizens Against Fake Activism, however, urged Nigerians to designate Sahara Reporters as an enemy entity operating in the country, “one that has persistently refused to relent in publishing and promoting contents that malign and undermine the safety of citizens”.  It, there...

Exposing Pseudo-Activism In Nigeria By Idoko Ainoko

Civil rights activists, the world over, are  known for their fight against social injustice and their bid to make lasting impact on the lives of the oppressed and underprivileged. They champion causes for the betterment of the citizenry as well as reinforce mechanisms for effective governance in the overall interests of the people and for the development of nations. In the UK, US and other countries, rights activism was fired by the increaing cases of gross injustice and discrimination against certain persons and when it started,  it was thorough and very serious as it focussed social justice and the fundamental human right.  Early activists in the US include names such as  Martin Luther King Jr., Harriet Tubman, Sojourner Truth, Rosa Parks, W.E.B. Du Bois , Malcolm X, Jesse Jackson and many others. These people put their lives on stake to advocate for equality and social justice and sometimes went through terrible experiences to achieve their aims...

PDP Lauds PMB, Military On Sustained Offensive Against Boko Haram/ISWAP Terrorists

The PDP National Support Vanguard (PDP-NSV) has shoved aside its usual politics to hail the Nigerian government and military for the sustained onslaught against Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists.    According to the top opposition group, now is the time to shun partisan interests in support of the gallant troops ahead of final victory.    In a statement co-signed by Hon. Gideon Ekele and Comrade Lucky Jonathan, its President and National Secretary respectively, the PDP Vanguard said that President Muhammadu Buhari has maintained a patriotic stance by providing much-needed leadership in the Armed Forces.    This, according to the group, has translated to the multiple gains recorded by the Nigerian troops in the war against the Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists.    In time past, the PDP-NSV admitted sitting on the fence instead of rallying behind the troops on the frontlines.    For the current momentum to be maintained, the o...
