In years past, the arrival of the rainy season sent waves of anxiety across many communities in Ondo State. From Ilaje to Idanre, residents would brace themselves for the devastating impact of floods, homes submerged, roads cut off, livelihoods ruined, and in some tragic instances, lives lost. However, this painful reality is now being rewritten, thanks to the bold and unprecedented efforts of the administration of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa. Flooding has remained one of the most pressing environmental challenges in Ondo State, especially in low-lying and riverine communities.
