Idanre/Ifedore Federal Constituency: Power-Sharing Understanding And The Path To 2027

The political history of Idanre/Ifedore Federal Constituency is anchored on an unwritten but respected power rotation agreement between the two local governments since 1999.
This arrangement has ensured fairness, unity, and peaceful coexistence between Idanre and Ifedore, making the constituency one of the most politically stable in Ondo State.

---

Historical Background

The mutual understanding was further reinforced in 2011, when the Senatorial slot for Ondo Central was ceded to the Idanre/Ifedore axis.
At that time, Ifedore leaders voluntarily conceded the Senate position to Idanre for eight (8) years — a decision that produced Senator Ayo Akinyelure.
That gentleman’s agreement was sealed at a meeting of elders and political leaders held in Idanre and has since guided the political order in the constituency.

Senatorial Slot Understanding

During the late Osakuade’s consultations, both sides agreed that Ifedore would take the House of Representatives seat, while Idanre would hold the Senatorial seat for eight (8) years.
That understanding was faithfully honored, and Idanre has since benefited from both the Senate and House of Representatives positions in successive cycles.

---

Renegotiated Terms (2018)

In 2018, political leaders from both local governments revisited the arrangement and agreed that no local government should hold the House of Representatives seat for more than two consecutive terms (8 years maximum).
By this agreement, Idanre Local Government has already enjoyed the maximum 8 uninterrupted years (2019–2027).

---

THE WAY FORWARD (2027 AND BEYOND)

In the spirit of equity, fairness, and mutual respect, and in strict adherence to the rotational understanding:

👉 The 2027 House of Representatives seat should rightfully return to Ifedore Local Government.

Honoring this long-standing balance will:

Sustain the bond of brotherhood between Idanre and Ifedore.

Reinforce public trust in political fairness.

Preserve the stability that has defined the constituency for over two decades.Whoever comes to equity must come with clean hands.

Just as Nigerians across the nation support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second term to complete the South’s 8-year cycle before power returns to the North in 2031,
so must all men and women of conscience, justice, and fairness support Ifedore Local Government for the House of Representatives seat in 2027.
